New at Bee & Thistle: Mason & Sis Swans

Bee & Thistle Interiors on Main Street has a few new additions: a flock of swans crafted by Mason & Sis. Their swans were featured in the HGTV Dream Home at Lake Lure.
If swans aren’t your thing, the shop now seriously tempts your sweet tooth with Jelly Belly jelly beans and handmade chocolates and truffles.

Creekside Village Development
Just came across a PDF download about the residential development Creekside Village, which will be going in behind Lake Louise. This new development is courtesy of the Greer, SC company Moon McManus.
I had missed the initial story about this development, which was apparently back in June (before I even started this website). It calls for 295 two- and three-bedroom homes running in the $130-200 range. Ground breaking should happen within the year.
Here’s the direct link to the Creekside Village brochure: http://www.moonmcmanus.com/pdfs/Weaverville_Development_Download.pdf
Note:
Someone asked me recently why I don’t offer more opinions about the things I post here, seeing as it’s a blog and that’s what they’re known for. The reason is I want to make this site a place where everyone in Weaverville can come and find information and events in and about Weaverville, not for people to come to read what I think about that information. Just because I may not support a particular issue or like a certain restaurant doesn’t mean others feel the same way. Maybe, as the site grows, the comments section will be the place for preferences and opinions, including my own, but for now, consider this opinion-free.
Cancel that bonfire
No sooner did I read that all 100 North Carolina counties are officially in a drought did I receive the notice that a state-wide burning ban was initiated by the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources (NCDFR) beginning August 21. Under North Carolina law (G.S. 113-60.25 and 113.60.27), the ban prohibits all open burning throughout the State, regardless of whether a permit was issued, and is in effect until further notice.
Blue Ridge Relay runs through Reems Creek on Sept. 8
On September 8, be prepared to see lots of runners on Reems Creek and Ox Creek Roads when the third annual Blue Ridge Relay comes to town. The 208-Mile team relay, one of the longest running relay races in the United States, begins at Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia on September 7 and finishes in Asheville September 8. This year 48 teams have signed up for the race, and I’m told we can expect them in our area from about 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Please drive carefully on Reems Creek and Ox Creek Roads during that time, and be sure to show them some support. 208 miles is a long way to run, and these men and women are doing it in a two-day period with some pretty tough hills thrown in the mix.
For more information about the race, visit their website, www.blueridgerelay.com.
