Blue Ridge Relay runs through Reems Creek on Sept. 8
On September 8, be prepared to see lots of runners on Reems Creek and Ox Creek Roads when the third annual Blue Ridge Relay comes to town. The 208-Mile team relay, one of the longest running relay races in the United States, begins at Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia on September 7 and finishes in Asheville September 8. This year 48 teams have signed up for the race, and I’m told we can expect them in our area from about 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Please drive carefully on Reems Creek and Ox Creek Roads during that time, and be sure to show them some support. 208 miles is a long way to run, and these men and women are doing it in a two-day period with some pretty tough hills thrown in the mix.
