Kids for Christ After-School Program at First Baptist Church
Weaverville’s First Baptist Church invites your children to Kids For Christ on Wednesdays after school at the church. All children in grades 1-6 are welcome to participate. This is a special ministry sponsored by the volunteers of the church in order to involve children in recreation, study hall, hand bells, Bible activities, and children’s choir. Each Wednesday, the Kids for Christ schedule will be as follows:
- 2:45-3:10 Recreation – Please wear tennis shoes. In case of rain, play will be indoors.
- 3:10-3:30 Snack
- 3:30-4:30 Study Hall
- 4:00-4:30 Hand bells (by invitation)
- 4:30-5:00 Bible Study
- 5:00-5:45 Children’s Choir

- 6:15-6:30 Singing and Prayer

The Church sent me a detailed letter about the Kids for Christ program, so if you’re interested in the program click ‘read the rest of this entry’ to view those details.
Study Hall is time for volunteers to help children with homework. Please encourage your child to be prepared to use this time wisely. When all homework is complete, the remaining time will be used to read or other quiet learning activities directed by the volunteer. Send library books, if possible, for your child to read and re-read. Please remember that our volunteers are not classroom teachers, so check your child’s work for accuracy.
Participation: Please call the church office by 3 p.m. when your child is going to be absent from KFC. Our goal is to have each child arrive safely and be under adult supervision. Children dropped off by the bus will be met by an adult and then go directly to the Fellowship Hall to check in. If your child does not arrive at the scheduled time, you will receive a call from the staff. Please assume that your child arrived safely if you do not receive a call. (It is not necessary for your child to call upon arrival.) Children are expected to be involved with all activities during KFC: recreation, snack, study hall, Bible activities and children’s choir (Hand bells are for a limited number of children). All children should remain in specified areas under adult supervision at ALL times.
Family Night Supper: Each Wednesday night at 5:45 p.m., adults are welcome to join their kids for fellowship and good food. The cost for the meal is $3.50 for adults and $2.00 for children. In order to be prepared with enough food, please call Monday morning for meal reservations for your family. For your convenience, if you would like to be placed on the permanent reservation list and pay monthly, please contact the church office. Please send the proper amount of money each week or pay a month in advance. Also, please call by Tuesday morning to cancel if you or your child will not be at the supper. Our Family Night Supper is a special time for children, youth, and adults to eat and fellowship together, so children need to remain in the Fellowship Hall from 5:45-6:15 p.m.. When available, we will try to have adult volunteers from 6-6:15 p.m. so the children may play outside
Safety: Children can be dropped off or picked up through the side connector door on Pine Street. Our adult Bible Study takes place in the Fellowship Hall from 6:15-7:15 p.m., and we welcome you to join us or please feel free to wait on the couches in the connector until the children are dismissed at 7:15 p.m. When you drop off or take your child, please sign your child in/out on the attendance sheet. Your child’s safety is important to us, and we like to get to know you better when you come in the connector. Announcements will be posted in this area for you about upcoming events/special topics.
Important: Please fill out the enclosed Permission/Medical Release Form and Behavior Agreement and return it to the church office for our records. We want to do all we can to insure your child’s safety while in our care.
Transportation: Children from Weaverville Primary and Weaverville Elementary may ride Bus 83 to the church and children from North Windy Ridge must ride Bus 235. Send a note to school stating that your child will be riding that bus every Wednesday afternoon this school year (except those listed below) to participate in First Baptist Church KFC. KFC will not meet on January 2, March 26, or April 16. If Buncombe County Schools are dismissed early or if a Teacher Work Day is announced because of bad weather, KFC will be cancelled.
