The Final Frontier
A couple Space events for those of you interested in looking skyward:
First, there’s the Jupiter/Venus/Moon sky show happening in our morning sky:
…these final days of January and the first days of February will be an exceptional time for predawn sky watchers with a beautiful pairing of the two brightest planets, Venus and Jupiter. They will appear closest together in the dawn sky of Friday, February 1, and a few mornings later, on Monday, February 4, the waning crescent moon will later drop by to join them.
If the morning hours aren’t your thing, you can catch a glimpe of the International Space Station in the evening. NASA’s Satellite Sightings page for Asheville lists all potential satellite sightings in our area, and it’s updated weekly. Here’s the schedule for the next two days:
| Thu Jan 31/07:21 PM | 14 above WNW | 16 above N | |||
| Sat Feb 02/06:29 PM | 16 above WNW | 10 above NNE |
and here’s the Help page, which describes what the above numbers mean and how to use them.

A little information about Girls on the Run from their website:
Girls on the Run is a national non-profit educational and running program for pre-adolescent girls (ages 8-11) that strengthens girls physically, emotionally, and socially in preparation to face the upcoming pressures of adolescence.
The 14-week program combines self-esteem enhancing life-lessons, discussions, and running games in an encouraging, girl-positive environment where girls can feel free to express themselves and build their confidence.
The goal of Girls on the Run is to empower girls early in their lives to find strength, courage and self-respect from within and draw upon it as they face the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.

Homemade Chocolate Lollipops for Valentine’s Day (or any other day)
Chocolate lovers — this post is for you! Weaverville native Regina Hensley recently started a chocolate lollipop business, Angel of Chocolate. She sent me the following letter along with a photo flyer about her new business just in time for Valentine’s Day. Note the last day to get your order in for the holiday is Friday, February 8.
Hi my name is Regina Hensley and I would like to introduce you to my new chocolate lollipop business: ”Angel of Chocolate”. For years my daughter and I have hand molded chocolate lollipops for fun. I finally decided why not try to market them. Over the last year I have made numerous baskets and sold them to coworkers and friends.
The chocolate comes in a variety of flavors: milk, dark, white, white mint, and also in a great range of colors. I have a vast collection of molds – Holidays, Sports, Flowers, Weddings, the list goes on. If I do not have a particular mold I will try my best to find the perfect one. Arrangements are great for parties, anniversaries, showers, and holidays.
I am taking orders now for Valentine’s Day. If you would be interested you can contact me at 230-1248 for additional information. Last day for ordering is Friday, February 8. I try not to duplicate so each lollipop arrangement is unique and different. Prices start at $20 depending on the type of container and the pieces of candy.
I take great pride and enjoyment in everything that is created. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
