I’ve started creating some widgets which will allow you to easily add MyWeaverville.com Headlines on your own website, blog, or social networking page. Widgets are small pieces of code you add to your site which are controlled by another party, in this case the headlines I post on MyWeaverville.com. Once you add the HTML code to your site you don’t have to do anything else — it’ll update automatically. You can get the code here: www.widgetbox.com/widget/weaverville-north-carolina-online-guide
Here’s what this widget looks like. It’s a working version, so you can play around with it to see how it works:

From Frost to Freezing
This morning I posted an alert from the National Weather Service about a frost advisory for our area. That has now been canceled and replaced with a Freeze Warning.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a freeze warning, which is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Wednesday for the mountains of North Carolina. The frost advisory is no longer in effect.
The center of a cold air mass will settle over the southern Appalachian region tonight. The combination of mostly clear skies, light winds, and dry air will allow low temperatures to fall to around freezing across the mountains of the North Carolina. A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
Weaverville Town Council-Asheville City Council Workshop April 29
There’s a Weaverville Town Council and Asheville City Council workshop scheduled for 5 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, April 29) at the Asheville Public Works Facility at 5 p.m. The Town Calendar has this as the agenda:
Weaverville Town Council and Asheville City Council Workshop will meet at the Asheville Public Works Facility located on South College Street in Asheville to discuss issue of common concern.
Word is those issues of common concern include growth issues, water issues and annexation. The Public Works Facility is located at 161 South College Street in Asheville.
Who Turned Off the Heat?
From the National Weather Service:
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a frost advisory for Buncombe County, which is in effect from 1 am to 9 am EDT Wednesday.
The center of a cold air mass will settle over the southern Appalachian region tonight. The combination of mostly clear sky cover, light winds, and dry air will allow low temperatures to fall near record lows. Temperatures are forecast to range from 33 to 35 within the valleys and near freezing across the higher elevations of the North Carolina mountains. These temperatures will promote the formation of frost across the mountains and possibly a light freeze above 3500 feet.
A frost advisory means that frost is possible. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.
UPDATE: The frost advisory has been replaced with a Freeze warning. Details here…

Angels for Alysa
You may have noticed donation jars and flyers around town for a young girl named Alysa. Alysa and her family are actually in Virginia, but she is also the great niece of Weaverville resident Jessica Coates. Jessica is trying to help the family with a fund raising effort to assist with medical bills. Why do they need help? Alysa suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD). There is no cure at this time for MLD, only research involving bone-marrow transplant and stem cell. Children Alysa’s age with this disorder normally do not live past the age of 5.
Your thoughts, prayers, and, if you wish, your donations, are appreciated. A website has been set up at www.caringbridge.org/visit/angels4alysa. For more information or if you’d like to help please contact Jessica at 230-8043.
