NBHS Sports Update: April 21, 2008

North Buncombe High School Sports Update, provided by Kim Morelock of the North Buncombe Hawk Club:

Golf
The Black Hawk Golf Team beat Asheville with Alex Ingle, Alex Roberson, and Logan Gentry leading the way. The team will play at Mountain Air on Monday and in the MAC Tournament on Thursday at Buncombe Municipal.

Tennis
The Men’s tennis team dropped their match with TC Roberson, but they remain on course of having the best record in school history. They host Tuscola on Monday and Asheville on Wednesday for two important conference matches.

Softball
The Lady Hawk softball team had another tough week with losses to TC Roberson and Erwin. They will host Tuscola on Tuesday and Enka on Thursday.

Baseball
The Varsity Baseball team rebounded from their loss to TC Roberson to defeat Erwin. Congratulations to Cody Geyer for hitting the WNC leading 11th home run of the season. The Hawks will host Tuscola on Tuesday and Enka on Thursday to continue their pursuit of the lead in the MAC. The JV baseball team will be at Tuscola on Tuesday and at Enka on Thursday.  The Baseball team is also ranked in the Impact Baseball team poll this season, coming in at #10 amongst NCHSAA 3-A teams.

Soccer
Our Lady Hawk Soccer team had a good week. After a loss to TC Roberson, they beat Erwin and West Henderson. They will host Tuscola on Monday and travel to Franklin on Wednesday.

Track
The NBHS track team did very well at the Buncombe County meet last week. The Men’s team placed 5th. Individuals who placed were: Alan Youngberg was 3rd in Discus and Shot Put, Michael Reardon was 2nd in Pole Vault and 300m Hurdles.
The Ladies’ team placed 4th with Sara Ledbetter 2nd best in Pole Vault. There will be a home track meet on Tuesday.
