Weaverville’s The Biscuit Burners CD Release Concert March 13

Weaverville-based band The Biscuit Burners present the Take Me Home CD Release Concert Thursday, March 13 at The Grey Eagle in Asheville (185 Clingman Avenue). The concert celebrates the release of their third full-length album, Take Me Home. Showtime is at 9 p.m. and tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. If you haven’t heard of this Bluegrass/Americana band, you can listen to a sneak preview of their new album on their MySpace page, plus here’s a little info from their latest press release:

The Biscuit Burners are proud to announce the release of third full-length album, Take Me Home, on March 13.

Highlighted by their signature sound of virtuoso instrumentation and angelic voices, The Biscuit Burners offer the finest representation to date of that fiery mountain sound, with Take Me Home. Similar to their previous releases, there is no one way to characterize this release. Inspired by music from near and far, including Bluegrass, Americana and Country as well as Indian Ragas, Reggae, and Jazz, the Biscuit Burners translate these inspirations with an Appalachian voice into their Fiery Mountain Music.

The diversity of the twelve tracks on Take Me Home introduce a new chapter for the band. Tracks such as Sujan Re, an Indian Raga arranged by the band, and The Real You, with its rock steady back beat, shine a more worldly light on the album, while the old-time fiddle breaks on Grasshopper and Rockville bring it back mountainside. You’re Who I Want and Sweet Red Wine show the band’s Nashville side.

Take Me Home exemplifies the nature and reach of the Biscuit Burners’ signature sound. Fiery Mountain Music is Bluegrass and Americana. It is World Music and Country. It is all these things as it reaches to the far corners of the world to show that roots music is universal, and flourishing with The Biscuit Burners.

The Biscuit Burners are Mary Lucey (bass, vocals), Billy Cardine (resophonic guitar, vocals), Dan Bletz (guitar), Odessa Jorgensen (fiddle, vocals). They have been featured on BBC World TV’s Destination Music, NPR’s Mountain Stage, PBS’ Roadtrip Nation, and The History Channel’s Our Generation. They have had feature articles in Bluegrass Now, Bluegrass Unlimited, Marquee Magazine, Flatpicking Guitar Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Singer & Musician, American Songwriter, and Dirty Linen.

Update: Read the March 12 Mountain Xpress interview with The Biscuit Burners’ Billy Cardine.
