Reading Partners Program
The Reading Partners Program at Weaverville Elementary School needs volunteers.  This is an ‘all volunteer’ program that has been helping second grade students at Weaverville Elementary school improve their reading skills since 1994.  Each semester fifteen students are chosen by their teachers to participate in the program.  Working in half-hour sessions three mornings a week, five tutors and five students work on reading, writing and comprehension. The program meets at the school Monday through Wednesday at 8:15 a.m., 9 a.m. & 9:45 am.  No experience is needed just the love of reading and working with children. The Fall session runs from late September to second week of December with the week of Thanksgiving off. Spring semester begins the middle of January and runs to the first week in May with a week off for Spring Break.  For current dates contact the program coordinator at readgtchr@att.net; home 626-2205 or cell# 337-2793.

Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to assist with their 3 routes in Weaverville (they also have a route in Barnardsville).  Full-time volunteers deliver meals once every week, and substitute volunteers are called on an as-needed basis to assist with deliveries.  The routes usually take 1-2 hours.  Volunteers pick up meals at the First Baptist Church on Main Street, deliver the meals along their route, then return the meal cooler back to the church.  A driver’s license, car, and insurance is required.  Meals on Wheels is also providing a $10/month in gas coupons to help offset gas costs for volunteers.
