Weaverville Garden Club
The Weaverville Garden Club was founded in October 1973 with seventeen members. The club’s mission then and now: To acquire knowledge of gardening and to promote active interest in civic beautification and conservation.
To achieve these goals through the years, the Club has been actively involved in numerous civic projects. These range from landscaping projects such as the original foundation plantings surrounding the Bess Tilson Sprinkle Memorial Library and benches and plantings at Lake Louise, to planting and maintaining floral beds throughout the downtown area. The Club has also assisted Weaverville schools achieve conservation goals, such as the development of a butterfly garden. Typical ongoing projects include maintenance of the flowers and greenery in the triangle at the intersection of Central and Main Streets and the area around the downtown parking plaza and preparation of holiday wreaths for the municipal offices and the library. The Club has also made monetary contributions to many area horticultural projects.
To finance these projects, the club sponsors a popular Rummage Sale in the spring each year. The club recently published a cookbook; proceeds from the sale of this book are also being used to support city beautification efforts.
Today’s Club continues the traditions of its founding members. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 9:30 am in the Community Room at Town Hall. All women in the community are welcome.
